BLUF: The "prepper" community has exploded. Why is this happening, what's the effect on prepper goods and pricing, and what can we do about the proliferation of "new experts" giving bad advice online?

The prepping community has seen unprecedented growth over the past 18 months, and it's not hard to understand why. Americans are waking up to the harsh realities facing our nation - economic instability, supply chain vulnerabilities, increasing government overreach, and social unrest that seems to be brewing just beneath the surface.

What started as a niche movement has now gone mainstream, with regular Americans from all walks of life starting to stock up on essentials. This surge has created a ripple effect throughout the preparedness industry. Prices for long-term food storage, water filtration systems, and defensive tools have gone up. Many quality manufacturers can't keep up with demand, leading to months-long backorders.

Our mission is to dispatch information to our fellow Americans & friends of America, to empower fellow Guardians to help save our republic & Christian culture.

The explosion in interest has also brought a flood of new "experts" to social media platforms, many with little actual experience. These self-proclaimed gurus often push unnecessarily expensive gear or dangerous shortcuts that could put families at risk when crisis strikes.

Even more concerning is the infiltration of woke ideology into preparedness spaces, with some new voices pushing dependency on government systems rather than true self-reliance. They're repackaging preparedness to fit their political agenda rather than focusing on time-tested principles that actually work.

For those of us who've been preparing for years, this creates both opportunities and challenges. We must step up as voices of reason while helping newcomers avoid costly mistakes. Remember that preparedness isn't just about gear - it's about skills, community, and faith in God's providence working through our own readiness.

PRACTICAL TIPS

With the surge of newcomers to preparedness, prices for essential supplies have increased dramatically. To avoid getting gouged while still building your readiness posture, consider these strategies:

First, focus on skills before gear. Learning to purify water, grow food, and perform basic first aid costs very little but provides immense value. A $30 book on wilderness medicine will serve you better than a $300 medical kit you don't know how to use.

Second, buy incrementally and strategically. Add a few extra canned goods to each grocery trip rather than panic-buying all at once. This approach keeps costs manageable and prevents you from competing with everyone else during shortage events.

Third, find community with like-minded Christians who share your values. Pool resources for bulk purchases and skill-sharing. A neighbor with medical training complements your food production capabilities. This approach reflects biblical principles of community while stretching your preparedness dollars.

Finally, beware of fear-based marketing from new "experts." If someone's pushing products with urgency tactics or claims of exclusive information, that's a red flag. True preparedness is thoughtful, not reactionary.

EXCLUSIVE CONTENT

The explosion of interest in preparedness presents an opportunity for Christians to lead by example. Here's how everyday Americans can respond to the current prepper surge:

Become a voice of stability in your community. While newcomers may be driven by fear, we know that "God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind" (2 Timothy 1:7). When neighbors express anxiety about world events, offer perspective grounded in faith along with practical advice.

Create opportunities for knowledge transfer in your church or neighborhood. Host a simple class on food preservation, basic tool use, or emergency communication. This serves others while building relationships that strengthen community resilience.

Politely but firmly challenge bad advice when you see it. When someone shares questionable preparedness information on social media, offer correction with grace. Many new preppers simply don't know what they don't know.

Support ethical businesses within the preparedness space - companies that provide quality products at fair prices without exploiting fear. This includes small, family-owned operations that share our values.

Finally, remember that true preparedness includes spiritual readiness. No amount of stored food replaces a relationship with the Creator. As you build physical resilience, strengthen your spiritual foundation through prayer, scripture, and fellowship.
